Our first meal in Istanbul

Image
All our meals during the trip were provided for by SA Travel. Most dinners are eaten at the hotels we stayed at and they were served buffet style.  We only ate at restaurants while on the road or while we were out on excursions. Meals served in Turkish restaurants are similar to what you will get in a restaurant in Europe.  However, coffee or tea are not served free of charge and fruits are served as dessert. Our first meal was eaten at Dubb Kebab Restaurant located at Binbirdirek Mah Peykhane Cad No 34/1B Sultanahmet Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey, 34410. There is a  map  to the restaurant on their facebook page. You can view  its interior  from their website.   These were what we ate: Turkish rolls Salad with olive oil dressing From the website of Dubb Kebab Restaurant, I discovered that the Turkish lentil soup served is called  Mercimek corbasi   -A pack of plain water Our meals were usually followed by a choice of chicken or......

What to bring for the trip?

The best way to decide what to pack for the trip is to find out what the weather will be like when you get there.  Autumn in Türkiye starts from October and ends in November. I read from Weather25 that the temperatures in October are comfortable with low of 16°C and high up to 20°C.  I noted down the temperature of each destination we would be visiting based on the itinerary given.  Note: According to NOAA SciJinks, the accuracy of: -a 5 day forecast is 90% -a 7 day forecast is 80% -a 10 day forecast or longer is 50% As I had prepared this about a week before our departure. I saved the links to the weather forcast of these locations so that I could check it again nearer the date. What should we bring for a trip to Turkey?  These are some items our Malaysian Tour Guide, David, listed on his "Turkey - Pre Tour Text Message" on 7 October for us to take note of: 1. Check-in luggage : Maximum 2 pieces total weigh not more than 30kg 2. Hand carry luggage on Economy Clas...

The best time to visit Türkiye

Image
The best time to visit Türkiye is between April and May and September and October.  We picked to travel with SA Travel from the 14 to the 24 October under their " 10 DAYS 7 NIGHTS TÜRKİYE HIGHLIGHTS " package.   Are you wondering where Türkiye is? You may know it better as Turkey. It was a rebranding effort by Recep Tayyip Erdogan , the current president of Turkey since 2014, to rename it Türkiye. The rebranding campaign began in December of 2021. What is the reason for the change?  Its former name, Turkey, is a bird traditionally associated with Christmas, New Year or Thanksgiving.  Its official name has always been, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti, since its declaration of independence on 29 October 1923. However, in English it is known as the Republic of Turkey. In January, a tourism campaign was launched with the catchphrase "Hello Türkiye" and this is the video they shared to promote it. Watch it to learn how to call it by its new name correctly.   ...
