What to bring for the trip?

The best way to decide what to pack for the trip is to find out what the weather will be like when you get there.

Autumn in Türkiye starts from October and ends in November. I read from Weather25 that the temperatures in October are comfortable with low of 16°C and high up to 20°C.  I noted down the temperature of each destination we would be visiting based on the itinerary given.

Note: According to NOAA SciJinks, the accuracy of:

-a 5 day forecast is 90%
-a 7 day forecast is 80%
-a 10 day forecast or longer is 50%

As I had prepared this about a week before our departure. I saved the links to the weather forcast of these locations so that I could check it again nearer the date.

What should we bring for a trip to Turkey?  These are some items our Malaysian Tour Guide, David, listed on his "Turkey - Pre Tour Text Message" on 7 October for us to take note of:

1. Check-in luggage: Maximum 2 pieces total weigh not more than 30kg

2. Hand carry luggage on Economy Class: 1 piece of cabin size total weigh not more than 8kg. In case of luggage delay, prepare 1 set of clothes, jacket and scarf in hand carry luggage or bag. (Click on this link if you need more information about baggage on Turkish Airlines.)

3. Powerbank must be carried on board with label stated capacity no more than 10000mAh

4. Liquid item to bring on board must not exceed 100ml per piece (maximum 10pcs)

Though our ETD for our Turkish Airlines flight was at 2305hrs, we were informed to meet at the airport at Level 5, Counter K at 1845hrs to register and check in our luggages.  That was a long wait for departure and our KLIA airport is not as cold as it used to be. The Turkish Airlines aircraft was not too cold either. So, I was lucky that I was wearing a short sleeve blouse under my oversized hoodie.  My stretchy yoga pants was comfortable to sleep in and it hugged my legs right to the ankle to keep me warm on the plane.

Do not forget that you will have to go through KLIA security checkpoint before boarding the plane. You will have to remove your coat or jacket and anything metalic on your body or in your pocket. You can keep these items in your handbag or backpack before you step through the scanner:

-watch
-jewellery
-belt
-purse or wallet if you have coins in them
-mobile phone

Take out your toiletries and medication from your hand luggage or bag if there are liquid in them.  These should not be stored in bottles that exceed 100 ml. If you have a laptop in your bag, take it out and put it in a bin provided. It will run through their scanner with the other bins for your handbag or backpack or hand luggage.

At the airport in Turkey, I was required to remove my boots. Though coverings will be provided for your feet, it will be a good idea to wear socks and shoes that are easy to remove.

We had a pleasant surprise on board the plane. Each of us were given a lovely bag of overnight kit with the following items in it:

-toothpaste
-toothbrush
-eye mask
-slippers
-lip balm
-ear plugs

On the return trip, we received the same items in a grey PVC bag. The lip blam was supplied in a smaller tube.

As I have not traveled in Autumn before, I did a search for the kind of autumn attire I should be packing. I discovered that Uniqlo has a link to Style Book which shares trend that is current for the season for everyone in the family.  I also brought along a sleeveless Uniqlo's AIRism inner wear. If you wear it under your clothing, it will absorb smells as the fabric is able to prevent a build-up of body moisture. As I wore it during the trip, I could wear some of my tops more than once. It also kept me warm as the fabric is very elastic.

This was the weather condition we faced on 15 October 2022.

We were lucky that we had two umbrellas with us and I had my hoodie on as it was raining on the day we arrived in Istanbul.

According to our itinerary, we should be visiting these places in Istanbul before our, more than three hours, drive down to Bolu:

-Hippodrome
-Blue Mosque ) remember to bring your scarf
-Hagia Sophia )
-Topkapi Palace

As the queue was too long to enter Hagia Sophia and it was raining, Yavuz proposed that we visit it on our return trip to Istanbul on the 21 October. That was a good idea as the weather was sunny then.
